Great to get this press release from Abu Dhabi Harelquins yesterday afternoon. The Harlequins have already had a big year with wins at the Dubai 7s, and now the West Asia Premiership league winners, top of the table in the UAE premiership and surely targetting the WAP Trophy as well.

The Abu Dhabi-based Harlequins Rugby Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Theunis “Vicky” Meyer as the Club’s Director of Rugby.
“We are excited about Vicky’s appointment,” said Harlequins’ Chairman, Andy Cole. “He will focus on smoothing the pathway from junior to senior players, allowing our members to grow with consistency and skill within the sport.”

Meyer, 30, hails from South Africa where he played for Stellenbosch University and taught Physical Education. He also
spent a year in Rome, Italy as a player and coach for LDM Colleferro Rugby Club. His combination of experience made
him ideally suited for the position.

Meyer says, “I plan to implement a bottom-up system to identify future rugby players by working with schools tonintroduce the sport, running rugby clinics, hosting coach-the-coach training sessions. In so doing, we will spread the vision of the club and mentor our younger players to progress them through to Senior rugby and reap the benefits of a game known for its discipline, respect and comradeship.”

Established in 1970, the Abu Dhabi Harlequins Rugby Club is comprised of more than 1000 members that make up more
than 50 teams from Under 4’s up to the Veterans. The Club includes Senior Men, Ladies, Vets, Juniors (Boys, Girls &
Mixed), Touch and the inspiring Try Rugby Programme for children with special needs.
